Requiem for Elisabeth

Updated: Jun 24, 2020

You left your things behind Now I am your home for body and soul Sad lodgings for so shinny a star No heat or light, and air enough only to keep me going Where to? You might as well have taken me with you Instead, you left me empty Regretting over and over I wasn't there when you took your leave I'll be never there, ever there Where I should have been and I want you as an empty house wants laughter and the smells of food and the safety of a mother watching for her children inside it I am a condemned building I am a dog sitting at her owners grave Except you have no grave and I wasn't there Where I ought to have been, even near there I was not When you took your leave.
