May

Maria Alice Bragança, translated by Malu Baumgarten

An autumn night. It rains.

There’s lightning and thunder

these are ambulance sirens.

It's colder outside.

Tears overflow for

nearly 500,000 deaths. It rains.

how many minutes of silence

and mourning? Eight years perhaps? It rains.

I cry. Fear peers

through the window with me.

Fear lurks

like the virus.

It rains.
